Gerard Piqué Fires Back at Barcelona Critics: “That’s Why We’re Recognised”
Gerard Piqué has once again stepped into the spotlight after responding to a social media critic who questioned how Barcelona have achieved their success over the years.
The former Barcelona defender, known for his outspoken personality both on and off the pitch, did not hesitate when a TikTok user suggested that Barça’s victories have been helped by refereeing decisions.
Piqué Has a Message for Barça Critics
The debate started when a TikTok user posted a provocative claim:
“There is only one way for Barça to win and we already know it.”
The comment was clearly aimed at the long-running accusations that Barcelona have benefited from refereeing decisions.
Piqué responded by rejecting the idea outright, insisting that Barcelona’s success has primarily been built on their football.
“Yes, there is only one way for Barça to win and it is playing football very well. That’s why we’re recognised.”
He then pointed to the club’s impressive trophy record as evidence.
“We have won many leagues, many Champions Leagues and many trebles playing very good football.”
Piqué Turns the Refereeing Argument Around
Piqué did not stop there.
Instead, the former Spain international turned the discussion toward Real Madrid, arguing that controversial refereeing decisions have historically gone in their favour as well.
He specifically referenced the 1998 Champions League final between Real Madrid and Juventus, questioning Predrag Mijatović’s goal, as well as Sergio Ramos’ goal in one of Real Madrid’s Champions League finals against Atletico Madrid.
“Refereeing errors there are many but, normally and historically, they have always gone a little more in favour of Real Madrid.”
His comments are likely to reignite one of football’s oldest and most heated debates: whether refereeing decisions have disproportionately benefited either of Spain’s two biggest clubs.
Piqué Ends the Exchange With Irony
As expected, Piqué did not finish his response without adding a touch of his trademark sarcasm.
After delivering his argument, he simply signed off:
“For the rest, I hope you’re all good. A strong hug and to enjoy the day.”
It was a typically Piqué way of ending a heated football debate.
Barcelona Off to a Flying Start
Piqué’s comments arrive as Barcelona have enjoyed an excellent beginning to the new La Liga campaign.
Barça have won their opening four league matches, putting themselves at the top of the standings.
Real Madrid, meanwhile, have already dropped points after being held by Real Betis, giving Barcelona an early advantage in the title race.
It is still extremely early in the season, but with Barça winning and their former defender defending the club off the pitch, the rivalry with Madrid is already producing plenty of headlines.
