Raphinha 10, Cancelo 9: Barcelona Player Ratings After 7-2 Rout

Barcelona continued their sensational start to the season with another emphatic victory, cruising past Racing Santander 7-2 at Camp Nou.

The Catalans made their superiority clear from the opening stages, producing another explosive attacking display to secure a seventh consecutive win.

With Pau Cubarsí rested, Barcelona still fielded a strong starting XI and quickly took control. João Cancelo struck twice from distance, while Raphinha produced another captain’s performance with a hat-trick. Lamine Yamal also found the net, and Gabriel Jesus added a spectacular late goal.

Here are the Barcelona player ratings from the 7-2 victory.

Joan García — 7/10

Joan García had relatively little to do because of Barcelona’s dominance. He was unfortunate not to keep a clean sheet after Racing found a way through in the first half.

The goalkeeper could do little about the goal and otherwise looked composed, particularly with his distribution and sweeping. He was replaced at half-time, reportedly after picking up a possible knock.

João Cancelo — 9/10

Cancelo delivered one of his best performances in a Barcelona shirt.

The Portuguese defender opened the scoring with a powerful long-range effort that struck the post before finding the net. He then doubled his tally before the break with another effort from distance that took a deflection.

He could have reacted better to Racing’s opening goal, but his attacking contribution was outstanding.

Gerard Martín — 6.5/10

With Cubarsí given a rest, Martín had to operate without the youngster alongside him and struggled at times.

His positioning and reading of the game were not at their sharpest, although he avoided the costly mistakes that have affected some of his previous performances.

Andreas Christensen — 6.5/10

Christensen partnered Martín at the heart of the defence but endured an inconsistent evening.

He was partly at fault for failing to prevent Racing’s first goal and looked less convincing than usual defensively. He also missed two presentable opportunities at the other end.

Eric García — 7.5/10

Eric García offered plenty of encouragement, particularly with his attacking contribution.

He combined well with Lamine Yamal, regularly pushed forward and made useful overlapping runs. His willingness to move into advanced positions gave Barcelona another attacking outlet.

Defensively, he remained composed and handled his responsibilities without major problems.

Rodri — 8.5/10

Rodri once again demonstrated why he has become such an important part of Barcelona’s midfield.

He controlled the tempo, provided protection in front of the defence and distributed the ball with impressive accuracy. He also appeared increasingly willing to attempt ambitious forward passes.

His understanding of Hansi Flick’s system continues to develop.

Pedri — 8/10

After a disappointing performance at the weekend, Pedri responded with a much-improved display.

The midfielder repeatedly found pockets of space between Racing’s defensive lines and helped Barcelona maintain their control of possession.

His defensive contribution could still have been stronger, while there were signs that fatigue remains a factor.

Dani Olmo — 8.5/10

Olmo was one of Barcelona’s most dangerous attacking players.

Operating behind the forwards, he repeatedly found ways to split the Racing defence and created two major chances in the first half. His five key passes highlighted his influence.

He also registered an assist and completed all of his passes, although he will feel he should have done better with the opportunities that came his way.

Karim Adeyemi — 8.5/10

Adeyemi brought explosive pace and directness to Barcelona’s left flank.

His ability to attack space and drive at defenders caused Racing constant problems, even though his finishing was not at the same level.

The winger missed several opportunities but remained a major threat throughout the match. He eventually turned provider, setting up Yamal for Barcelona’s late goal.

Raphinha — 10/10

The captain delivered another spectacular performance.

Raphinha’s relentless pressing and intelligent movement repeatedly exposed Racing’s defence. He opened his account from the penalty spot before finishing from close range after receiving Olmo’s delivery.

He had the opportunity to complete his hat-trick earlier but allowed Yamal to take the second penalty. Raphinha eventually got his third from the spot and capped another outstanding night.

Lamine Yamal — 9/10

Yamal was a constant creative threat from the wing and repeatedly combined brilliantly with his teammates.

His finishing was less convincing, however. He missed a penalty, struck the woodwork and also had another goal ruled out for offside.

Despite those frustrations, he continued searching for his goal and eventually found the net late in the match. He also provided the assist for Gabriel Jesus’ spectacular strike.

Wojciech Szczęsny — 6.5/10

Szczęsny replaced Joan García at the interval but endured a difficult second half.

The veteran goalkeeper made a costly error that gifted Racing their second goal and prevented him from making a stronger impression after coming on.

Gabriel Jesus — 7.5/10

Gabriel Jesus entered the game in place of Raphinha and made an immediate impact.

The Brazilian produced one of the highlights of the night, connecting with Yamal’s assist first time and sending a superb strike into the top corner.

It was an excellent cameo capped by a memorable goal.
