Gavi and Frenkie de Jong See Major Drops in Barcelona Market Value

Barcelona midfielders Gavi and Frenkie de Jong have suffered another significant decline in their market values, according to the latest figures published by Transfermarkt.

Both players are now valued at €25 million, a figure that represents a dramatic fall from the levels they reached earlier in their careers.

Gavi and De Jong were once regarded as two of the most valuable midfielders in world football and key figures in Barcelona’s plans. However, injuries, changes in their roles and increased competition for places have contributed to their recent decline.

Gavi’s Rise Was Interrupted by Serious Injury

Gavi’s drop in value can largely be traced back to the serious knee injury he suffered in November 2023.

The midfielder had been progressing rapidly after breaking into Barcelona’s first team at just 17. He quickly established himself as an important player for both club and country, earning his Spain debut while his market value continued to climb.

After initially being valued at €25 million during the early stages of his senior career, Gavi’s valuation soared to €90 million by the end of 2022, the highest figure of his career.

His ACL injury arrived just as he had reached that peak.

Gavi retained his €90 million valuation for several months, but his eventual comeback proved more complicated than expected.

Persistent physical problems and difficulties establishing himself as a regular starter subsequently contributed to a series of market-value reductions.

His latest valuation of €25 million, down from €30 million in the previous update, is now the lowest of his professional career.

Interestingly, it is the same valuation Gavi had when he was only beginning to establish himself at senior level.

De Jong’s Market Value Has Fallen From €90 Million

Frenkie de Jong’s situation has followed a different path.

The Dutch midfielder has experienced several significant rises and falls since joining Barcelona, but he has repeatedly struggled to maintain his peak valuation.

De Jong reached €90 million on three occasions—in 2019, 2021 and early 2023.

Each of those peaks coincided with periods when he was performing at a high level for Barcelona. However, each was followed by another decline.

His first drop took his valuation from €90 million to €65 million, while the second saw it fall to €50 million.

The latest decline has been even more dramatic.

De Jong is now valued at just €25 million, meaning he has lost €65 million from his most recent peak of €90 million in 2023.

To find a valuation this low in his career, it is necessary to go back to his early days at Ajax.

De Jong Faces Competition on His Return

De Jong has yet to make an appearance for Barcelona this season after returning from the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a knee injury.

The midfielder has only recently taken another important step in his recovery by returning to group training.

His comeback will be welcomed by Hansi Flick, but earning regular minutes may not be straightforward.

Pedri, Rodri and Marc Bernal have all impressed in midfield, giving Flick several options when De Jong becomes fully available.

Two Formerly Elite Valuations, Now at €25 Million

The latest Transfermarkt figures underline how dramatically the market perception of both players has changed.

Gavi once reached €90 million after emerging as one of Europe’s most exciting young midfielders, while De Jong reached the same valuation multiple times after establishing himself as a major talent.

Both are now valued at €25 million.

For Barcelona, their eventual return to full fitness and consistent first-team involvement could become important not only for the squad but also for the future trajectory of their market values.
