Barcelona Receive Positive Eric Garcia Injury Update Ahead of Getafe

Barcelona have received a welcome boost ahead of their return to La Liga, with Eric Garcia expected to be available for Saturday’s clash against Getafe after his recent injury scare with Spain.

According to AS, the defender’s knee discomfort has turned out to be minor, with no signs of a significant injury.

Garcia has also been training normally with Barcelona since Monday, although he has continued to wear a protective face mask.

His availability could prove particularly valuable for Hansi Flick, who has increasingly trusted the versatile defender at right-back amid Jules Kounde’s recent loss of prominence in the position.

Garcia’s Spain Withdrawal Was a Precaution

Garcia initially joined Luis de la Fuente’s Spain squad during the international break but was sent back to Barcelona after experiencing discomfort in his left knee.

Following medical examinations, the Spanish federation decided not to take any unnecessary risks with the Barcelona defender.

Spain manager De la Fuente later explained that the decision was purely precautionary.

“If we’d been in the knockout stages, he would have stayed.”

The Spain boss explained that Garcia would not have been available for the next match anyway, while his availability for the following fixture remained uncertain.

“It wasn’t worth taking that risk. Under no circumstances were we going to seek a confrontation with the player.”

The decision allowed Garcia to return to Barcelona and continue his recovery without the additional demands of international football.

Eric Garcia Expected to Face Getafe

Garcia’s return to normal training since Monday has provided Barcelona with the reassurance they were looking for.

Unless he suffers an unexpected setback, the defender is expected to be included in Flick’s squad for the Getafe match.

That represents useful news for Barcelona, particularly with several other players still being monitored ahead of the fixture.

Flick Has Another Defensive Option

Garcia’s availability does not necessarily mean he will return directly to the starting XI.

João Cancelo and Xavi Espart have also been competing for opportunities, but having Garcia available gives Flick another versatile option capable of contributing across the defensive line.

With Barcelona entering an extremely demanding period of the season, avoiding unnecessary injuries will be crucial.

For now, the biggest positive is that Garcia’s knee issue appears to have been minor—and Barcelona can expect him to be available when Getafe arrive.
