Chelsea Renew Interest in Barcelona Defender Jules Kounde Ahead of January Window
Chelsea have reportedly revived their interest in Barcelona defender Jules Kounde, with the Premier League club monitoring his situation ahead of the January transfer window.
Kounde remains highly regarded across Europe, but his role at Barcelona has changed significantly this season.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Chelsea are now considering whether to make another attempt for the French international after noticing his reduced involvement under Hansi Flick.
The situation is particularly interesting because Chelsea previously pushed hard to sign Kounde in 2022, before Barcelona ultimately won the race to bring him to Catalonia from Sevilla.
Kounde Has Fallen Down the Barcelona Pecking Order
Kounde's lack of regular playing time has become increasingly noticeable.
The 27-year-old has started just two of Barcelona's first eight official matches this season, spending the other six games on the bench.
That represents a significant change for a player who has been an important part of Barcelona's defence since arriving at the club.
The increased competition for places has given Flick difficult selection decisions, particularly at right-back, where Kounde has previously been one of the team's most reliable options.
His current situation has consequently attracted attention from clubs searching for an experienced defender who can operate at the highest level.

Chelsea Already Know What Kounde Can Offer
Chelsea's interest in Kounde is hardly new.
The London club made a strong attempt to sign him in 2022, but Barcelona eventually secured an agreement with Sevilla for the defender.
Chelsea have continued to monitor the Frenchman since then, and his current lack of minutes could give them another opportunity to explore a deal.
Bayern Munich have also been mentioned among the clubs keeping an eye on Kounde's situation, but Chelsea are reportedly showing particularly strong interest.
With Xabi Alonso now in charge, the Premier League side could consider revisiting their long-standing interest when the January window opens.
Kounde's France Situation Has Also Changed
The uncertainty surrounding Kounde extends beyond Barcelona.
His position within the French national team has also become less secure following Zinedine Zidane's appointment as head coach.
Kounde started France's opening match of the international break against Turkey, which France won 1-0.

However, he remained on the bench for the subsequent fixtures against Belgium and Italy.
Pierre Kalulu has instead been preferred at right-back in two of Zidane's first three matches in charge, adding another layer of uncertainty to Kounde's current situation.
Could Barcelona Consider a January Sale?
For now, there is no indication that Kounde has asked to leave Barcelona.
The defender remains under contract and has not publicly indicated that he wants a move away from Camp Nou.
However, continued competition for his position could change the situation over the coming months.
If his playing time remains limited, Chelsea's interest could develop into a serious transfer proposal when the January window opens.
For Barcelona, that could create a difficult decision: retain an experienced defender who remains valuable to the squad, or consider a significant offer for a player whose role has diminished.
For Kounde himself, the coming months could be equally important.
If he can regain his place in Flick's starting XI, the transfer speculation may quickly disappear. If not, Chelsea could have an opportunity to revive a transfer pursuit that began more than four years ago.
