Lamine Yamal Makes His Career Ambitions Clear: “The Moment I Won the World Cup, I Already Wanted Another One”

Lamine Yamal has made it clear that winning major trophies has done nothing to reduce his hunger for success.

At just 19, the Barcelona forward has already collected major honours with both club and country, including the World Cup, two La Liga titles and the Copa del Rey.

Yet rather than becoming satisfied with what he has achieved, Yamal insists those successes have only made him want more.

Yamal’s Hunger for Trophies Remains Strong

Speaking to Jorge Valdano on Universo Valdano, Yamal explained that his ambitions extend far beyond what he has already accomplished.

“People think that because I’ve won the World Cup, two La Liga titles and the Copa, I don’t want to win three World Cups and five Champions Leagues.”

The Barcelona star says ambition is one of the strongest characteristics driving his career.

“I can assure you that ambition is what I have most. The moment I won the World Cup, I already wanted to win another one.”

Yamal also described football as the central focus of his life and believes his way of giving back to the sport is to continue competing and striving for more.

“I live for and because of football, and the only way I can repay football is by always wanting to play and win.”

Yamal Believes His Rapid Development Is an Advantage

The teenager also reflected on how quickly he has adapted to elite-level football.

According to Yamal, his accelerated development has helped him overcome one of the biggest challenges facing young players: adjusting to the demands of top-level football.

“There’s one thing I have going for me: I’ve gone through the maturing process very quickly.”

He believes that experience has given him a strong foundation for further improvement.

“It makes me happy to know that in four years I’ll be much better. I think it will be difficult to find someone who is at my level.”

Messi and Neymar Inspired Him

Yamal also spoke about two of the players who have influenced him throughout his development.

The Barcelona star continues to regard Lionel Messi as the greatest player in football history.

“The best player in history.”

Neymar, meanwhile, holds a particularly special place in Yamal’s childhood memories.

The Brazilian's creativity and flair were a major source of inspiration for the young Yamal.

“I always try to be happy, and Neymar was happiness. He was my whole childhood, watching videos of his goals and dribbles.”

Yamal Still Wants More From His World Cup

Despite helping Spain win the 2026 World Cup, Yamal admitted that he personally finished the tournament feeling he could have contributed even more.

“I wasn’t happy with myself because, for me, I could have done more. I helped the team, but I’m really looking forward to the next one.”

His self-expectations remain extremely high.

“For another player, with my performance it would have been a great World Cup, but not for me.”

Yamal also recalled advice he received from former Spain teammate Álvaro Morata before a 2024 international match against Brazil.

Morata reportedly pulled the then-16-year-old aside and told him:

“I know you’re the best player in the world at the moment. You just need to have confidence in yourself and show it.”

Yamal believes those words had a major impact on his mindset.

“From that moment on, I understood that I could show it. That’s when everything started to go upwards.”

With his trophy cabinet already filling up at 19, Yamal's comments suggest his ambitions are only getting bigger.
