Confirmed: Joan Garcia Nominated for 2026 Goalkeeper of the Year
Barcelona goalkeeper Joan Garcia has received his first major Ballon d’Or-related recognition after being nominated for the 2026 Goalkeeper of the Year award.
The Spanish international enjoyed an impressive debut season at Barcelona, helping the club secure the La Liga title.
Garcia Earns Ballon d’Or Recognition
Garcia joined Barcelona from Espanyol after the Catalan club activated his release clause.
He quickly established himself as a key figure between the posts, keeping 15 clean sheets in La Liga during his first season.
His performances also earned him the Zamora Trophy, awarded to La Liga’s best goalkeeper based on goals conceded.
Garcia was subsequently included in Spain’s squad for the 2026 World Cup, although he did not make an appearance during the tournament.
Tough Competition Awaits
Garcia will face strong competition for the prestigious award.
The nominees include Unai Simón, Thibaut Courtois, Emiliano Martínez, David Raya, Edouard Mendy, Matvey Safonov, Vozinha, Gregor Kobel and Yassine Bounou.
For Garcia, however, the nomination itself represents another major milestone after just one season at Barcelona.
With a La Liga title, Zamora Trophy and World Cup squad selection already on his résumé, the goalkeeper is quickly establishing himself among the elite.
