Barcelona Winger Roony Bardghji Reaches New Stage in ACL Recovery

Barcelona winger Roony Bardghji has taken another positive step in his rehabilitation from a serious ACL injury, with his recovery continuing according to schedule.

The Swedish international still faces a lengthy rehabilitation process, but the latest update suggests his recovery is progressing as expected after undergoing surgery earlier this summer.

Bardghji Shares Positive Recovery Update

Bardghji recently posted a video on Instagram showing himself running in water, an exercise commonly used during the early stages of rehabilitation following major knee surgery.

The development is an encouraging sign for the 20-year-old, although Barcelona are expected to remain patient rather than rush his return.

Bardghji suffered the injury on 10 August during a training session at the Ciutat Esportiva. Medical examinations subsequently confirmed that he had torn the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

Two days later, on 12 August, the winger underwent successful surgery performed by Dr Joan Carles Monllau.

Barcelona did not announce a precise recovery timetable, but ACL injuries typically require a prolonged rehabilitation period. When surgery, physical recovery, the return to team training and competitive readiness are all taken into account, the entire process can take around a year.

Water Training Helps Bardghji Rebuild Strength

Bardghji is not yet at the stage where he can return to normal ball work or full training on the pitch.

Instead, exercises in the water allow him to gradually rebuild mobility, strength and muscle mass while reducing the amount of stress placed on the recovering knee.

Loss of muscle strength is a common consequence following ACL surgery, particularly in the affected leg. Restoring that strength is therefore a crucial part of the rehabilitation process before a player can progress towards more demanding exercises.

For Bardghji, the challenge is even greater because this is not his first major injury involving the same knee.

The winger previously suffered a serious setback in 2024 while playing for FC Copenhagen, an injury that kept him out for several months.

Injury Ends Chance of Barcelona Exit

The latest injury also disrupted what could have been an important period in Bardghji’s career.

The Swedish winger had opportunities to leave Barcelona during the summer in search of regular first-team football, something that would have been difficult to guarantee given the competition for places in Hansi Flick’s squad.

However, the ACL injury effectively ended any possibility of a move.

Instead, Bardghji must now focus entirely on his rehabilitation and gradually work his way back towards full fitness.

There is still a considerable amount of work ahead before he can return to competitive football, but his latest water-running session represents another step forward.

Barcelona will hope the 20-year-old can complete his rehabilitation without complications and eventually return stronger from what has been a particularly difficult setback.
