Barcelona Keep Close Watch on Free-Agent Market as Two Left-Backs Enter Their Plans
Barcelona are already planning ahead for next summer, and the club appears to be paying particular attention to the full-back market.
According to SPORT, two experienced left-backs have emerged on Barcelona’s radar: RB Leipzig captain David Raum and Crystal Palace defender Tyrick Mitchell.
Both players are currently under contract until 2027, meaning their situations could become increasingly interesting as they approach the final stages of their respective deals.
Barcelona are not yet preparing a move, but the club is reportedly monitoring the market closely in case an opportunity develops.
Barcelona Assess Their Left-Back Options
Barcelona currently have several players capable of operating at full-back.
Eric Garcia and Jules Kounde provide options on the right, while João Cancelo, Xavi Espart and Alejandro Balde can cover the left side.
However, there is an obvious imbalance.
Cancelo and Espart are naturally right-footed, meaning Balde remains the club's primary natural left-back.
The Spaniard's position could also become one to watch during the coming months. Balde has struggled for regular minutes under Hansi Flick this season, and a departure cannot completely be ruled out if his situation does not improve.
If Balde eventually leaves, Barcelona would have an even greater need to strengthen the position.

David Raum Offers Familiarity for Hansi Flick
David Raum is particularly interesting because of his familiarity with Hansi Flick.
The Barcelona coach knows the German international from his time around the national team setup and has had the opportunity to observe his qualities closely.
At 28, Raum offers significant experience at both club and international level. He has also established himself as an important player for RB Leipzig and currently wears the captain's armband.
Leipzig are reportedly interested in extending his contract rather than allowing him to enter the final stages of his current agreement.
However, no new deal has been finalised, leaving Barcelona among the clubs monitoring his situation.
His experience, attacking contribution and familiarity with Flick's football could make him an interesting option if Barça decide they need another established left-back.
Tyrick Mitchell Brings a Different Profile
Crystal Palace's Tyrick Mitchell is another name Barcelona are reportedly keeping an eye on.
The English defender is also approaching the final phase of his current contract and has already been linked with Barcelona in the past.
Mitchell would offer a different profile from Raum, with his experience in the Premier League and ability to provide defensive solidity from the left side.
Barcelona's interest therefore appears to be about monitoring potential opportunities rather than committing to a particular target at this stage.
Both players could become increasingly attractive if their contract situations remain unresolved.
January Could Be Important for Barcelona
The timing is significant.
Players approaching the final six months of their contracts can negotiate with other clubs from January, meaning Barcelona may need to assess their options well before next summer's transfer window officially opens.
The Catalan club is also expecting movement within its own squad during the January window, particularly in the wide defensive positions.
Departures could create additional room within the squad and provide Barcelona with greater flexibility to bring in another player.
For now, Raum and Mitchell remain names to monitor rather than imminent Barcelona signings.
Much will depend on Balde's future, the January departures and whether Leipzig or Crystal Palace can resolve the players' contract situations.
Barcelona, however, appear determined to avoid being caught unprepared — and the left-back market is already firmly on their radar.
