Barcelona have taken a major step in their bid to spark an unforgettable European-style atmosphere when they face Atletico Madrid in the decisive second leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final. The Catalan giants have received official approval to bring back around 700 members of their former cheering section for Tuesday night’s blockbuster clash.
According to reports from Spain, the green light has been granted by the Mossos d’Esquadra, Catalonia’s regional police force, allowing the club to move forward with plans to regroup supporters who were once part of the Grada d’Animació. The move is seen as a strategic effort to transform the Spotify Camp Nou into an intimidating fortress.
Barcelona’s objective is clear: create a genuine “cauldron” atmosphere capable of inspiring a dramatic turnaround against Atletico Madrid. After suffering a heavy first-leg defeat, the Blaugrana hierarchy believes that a unified, vocal block of supporters could inject the intensity needed to unsettle Diego Simeone’s side.
However, while police authorization has been secured, one final administrative step remains before the plan becomes fully operational. The club must complete additional formalities to allow the group to be seated together inside the stadium.
Strategic Placement Inside the Stadium
The 700 supporters are expected to be positioned in a lower corner of the ground, behind the area known as Gol 1957, situated between the Gol Sud and Tribuna sections. This specific placement is not accidental. By concentrating their chants and coordinated support in a compact area, Barcelona hope to amplify the sound and energy throughout the stadium.
For this fixture, the arrangement is considered exceptional and temporary. Barcelona will not yet have the necessary municipal authorization — referred to as licence 1C — which would permit them to host up to 62,000 spectators. As such, this cheering section revival is a one-match solution rather than a permanent reinstatement.
Talks With Key Supporter Groups
The club has been in discussions for weeks with several prominent fan organizations that were previously involved in the Grada d’Animació before it was dissolved due to financial penalties. Among the groups consulted are Almogàvers, Nostra Ensenya, Front 532, and Supporters Barça.
These groups have historically played a significant role in shaping the atmosphere at Barcelona home games. Their coordinated chants, banners, and rhythmic backing were once a defining feature of major European nights at the stadium.
