Joan Laporta Launches Fierce Attack on Real Madrid Over Negreira Case
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has delivered a scathing response to Real Madrid, accusing the Spanish giants of attempting to undermine Barcelona’s reputation while the Catalan club enjoys a positive period on the pitch.
Relations between the two clubs remain tense, with the Negreira case continuing to fuel controversy. According to comments reported by SPORT, Laporta believes Real Madrid’s renewed focus on the case is an attempt to divert attention from Barcelona’s recent achievements.
The Barcelona president also questioned Madrid’s approach to football governance, arguing that their actions are damaging their credibility rather than helping the wider game.
Laporta Accuses Real Madrid of Diverting Attention From Barcelona
Laporta believes Barcelona’s recent performances and growing international recognition have made the club a target for criticism from their fiercest rivals.
Speaking to the media, the Barcelona president argued that discussions surrounding issues away from the pitch were being used to overshadow the team’s progress.
“In Madrid they talk about other topics to divert attention. Barça is in a sweet moment, we are enjoying football, a very beautiful moment in our history, an international recognition,” Laporta said.
He also highlighted Barcelona’s international talent and the strength of the current squad, claiming that Real Madrid were attempting to minimise the club’s achievements.
“We have nine players in the squad who have been world champions, we have a team that falls in love, with players in different positions who are references in the world of soccer. From Madrid they try to minimize all this,” he added.
Laporta’s remarks reflect the growing hostility between the clubs as they compete for domestic and European success, with the rivalry increasingly extending beyond the pitch.
Barcelona President Breaks Silence on the Negreira Case
The Negreira case remains one of the most contentious issues surrounding Barcelona, and Laporta made it clear that he believes the club has been unfairly judged in the public debate.
Real Madrid have continued to pursue the issue, including bringing their concerns to UEFA. Laporta, however, insists that the allegations should not be treated as proof of wrongdoing before the legal process reaches its conclusion.
“The Negreira Case, I will not stop saying it, they tried to condemn us before judging us, when it is being shown that there was nothing they accused of. I fully trust in Barça’s acquittal,” he said.
The Barcelona president also criticised those who continue to discuss the case, arguing that doing so damages the club’s public image before a final judgment has been delivered.
“Those who are constantly talking about it, try to harm and tarnish the image of Barça, because they will have to rectify. There will be time to talk about this when we have the sentence,” Laporta added.
His comments underline Barcelona’s position that the allegations should be assessed through the legal process rather than through public opinion. However, the case remains a source of scrutiny, and its ultimate outcome will be determined by the relevant authorities.
Laporta Claims the Case Is Being Used to Discredit Barcelona
Laporta was particularly forceful when addressing the continued attention surrounding the Negreira investigation.
He suggested that keeping the controversy alive serves to damage Barcelona’s reputation, rather than advancing a meaningful discussion about the allegations.
“They extend the summary as much as they can to keep the flame alive, but it doesn’t go anywhere. It’s just to discredit Barça,” he said.
The dispute has become another flashpoint in the rivalry between Barcelona and Real Madrid, with both clubs taking sharply contrasting positions on the matter.
For Barcelona, the priority is to defend the institution’s reputation while allowing the legal process to run its course. Laporta’s comments make clear that he does not intend to remain silent while the controversy continues to dominate discussion surrounding the club.
Real Madrid Also Draw Criticism Over Football Governance
Laporta’s criticism extended beyond the Negreira case, as he questioned Real Madrid’s approach to wider football projects and institutional relationships.
The Barcelona president accused Madrid of adopting a confrontational position on several issues, arguing that the club’s actions create obstacles for other organisations.
“They do it to harm football, because they are against everything. They go to UEFA, They go to the Euroleague and they are against everything and everyone,” Laporta said.
He then suggested that Madrid’s approach was damaging the club’s standing in the football world.
“It says a lot about a club that is losing prestige, recognition and credibility at the national and international level.”
Laporta also pointed to Madrid’s reported absence from a conference organised by the European Football Clubs association, or EFC, as an example of what he described as an arrogant attitude.
“It’s clear, I was at the EFC conference and they didn’t even have representation. They have a very arrogant attitude, very arrogant, very arrogant. They will know what they are doing, but it is leading them to have a huge lack of credibility,” he added.
These are Laporta’s assessments of Madrid’s conduct, rather than independently established conclusions about the club’s reputation.
Laporta Calls on Real Madrid to Rethink Their Approach
The Barcelona president concluded by arguing that Real Madrid should reconsider the consequences of their actions and the impact they have on other football organisations.
Drawing a comparison with the debate surrounding the EuroLeague, Laporta claimed that Madrid’s approach creates unnecessary barriers for those seeking to move projects forward.
“Just like with the Euroleague, in the end they finish everyone, but along the way they only put obstacles to what the rest of us want to do. They should make self-criticism about this because it seems inappropriate to me,” he concluded.
The remarks reinforce the depth of the divide between the two Spanish rivals. While Barcelona seek to focus attention on their performances and progress, the Negreira case continues to provide a major source of tension between the institutions.
Barcelona and Real Madrid Rivalry Reaches Another Flashpoint
Laporta’s latest comments demonstrate that the rivalry between Barcelona and Real Madrid remains intense away from the pitch.
The Negreira case continues to shape the relationship between the clubs, with Laporta defending Barcelona’s position and accusing Madrid of using the controversy to damage their rivals.
Whether his criticism changes the course of the dispute remains to be seen. For now, the exchange adds another chapter to an increasingly bitter rivalry in which sporting success, institutional influence and questions of credibility have become closely intertwined.
Barcelona will hope that their performances on the pitch can continue to command attention, while the legal process surrounding the Negreira case will ultimately determine the outcome of the allegations.
