Barcelona Take Decisive Step Towards Spotify Camp Nou Roof as Major Milestone Is Reached
Barcelona have taken another major step in the redevelopment of the Spotify Camp Nou, with a crucial part of the stadium’s future roof structure now officially complete.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the enormous compression ring surrounding the top of the third tier has been fully closed following the installation of its final section on Monday.
The development marks an important stage in the reconstruction project and brings Barcelona one step closer to the most spectacular phase of the stadium transformation.
Compression Ring Finally Completed
The compression ring had been almost finished since the final week of September, with only a small section remaining.
Construction workers had to wait for the right conditions before installing the final piece because the steel structure is affected by temperature changes.
Metal expands and contracts depending on temperature, meaning the construction team needed the steel to reach the appropriate thermal conditions before completing the final connection.
That wait is now over.
The final section was delivered to the stadium on Monday and lifted into position, officially closing the massive ring across the full 360 degrees of the structure.

The Next Step: 92 Steel Cables
Completing the compression ring is particularly significant because it provides the foundation for the next stage of the roof construction.
The next major operation will involve installing 92 radial steel cables connecting the outer compression ring to an inner tension ring.
Together, these components will create the structural framework that will eventually support the stadium's roof membrane.
Once the system is assembled, Barcelona will be ready to move towards one of the most visually significant stages of the entire redevelopment.

The ‘Big Lift’ Is Coming in 2027
The biggest operation is still ahead.
Barcelona's current construction schedule places the ‘Big Lift’ for the summer of 2027, after the conclusion of the 2026/27 season.
The operation is expected to begin between June and July and will involve lifting the enormous roof structure into its final position above the stands.
It is expected to take approximately four months.
Once completed, the roof will provide coverage over virtually all of the stadium's seating areas, marking one of the defining moments in the transformation of the new Spotify Camp Nou.
The pitch itself will remain uncovered.
Barcelona Set for Temporary Return to Montjuïc
During the roof installation period, Barcelona are expected to temporarily return to the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys at Montjuïc.
The club previously used the stadium as its temporary home while the Spotify Camp Nou redevelopment was underway.
The return to Montjuïc would therefore represent another temporary chapter before Barcelona eventually settle permanently back into their renovated home.
With the compression ring now complete, however, the project has entered another crucial phase.
The next time Barcelona fans see the Spotify Camp Nou transform at this scale, the stadium could be preparing for the spectacular ‘Big Lift’ that will finally bring its long-awaited roof closer to reality.
