Barcelona Secure Xavi Espart’s Future With New Contract Until 2030

Barcelona have moved to protect another emerging La Masia talent, with teenage defender Xavi Espart reportedly signing a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2030.

The renewal represents another important step in Barça’s commitment to developing young players capable of becoming first-team regulars. Espart’s rapid rise under Hansi Flick has made him an increasingly valuable member of the squad, and the club have now rewarded his progress with improved terms.

According to SPORT, the agreement has been finalised after sporting director Deco previously indicated that a renewal was close.

Barcelona Reward Espart’s Rapid Rise

Espart’s previous contract was due to expire in 2028, with his terms still linked to the club’s reserve team.

Barcelona have now secured his future for another two years beyond that original expiry date, while also substantially improving his salary and increasing his release clause.

The agreement forms part of a broader effort to protect the club’s young talents and secure the futures of important players. Barcelona have also worked on renewals involving Raphinha and Marc Bernal, while negotiations continue with Gerard Martín and Brian Farinas.

For Barça, keeping Espart represents more than simply retaining another academy graduate. It reflects the club’s belief that his versatility and development could make him an important option for Flick over the coming seasons.

From La Masia Prospect to First-Team Player

Espart’s development has gathered momentum throughout 2026.

The youngster began training regularly with Barcelona’s first team at the start of the year, gradually earning greater responsibility under Flick. His progress culminated in a Champions League debut against Newcastle United.

His impressive pre-season performances further strengthened his position, eventually leading to full first-team status and the No. 12 shirt.

At just 19, Espart has already demonstrated an ability to adapt to different tactical demands, making him an attractive option for a manager who values flexibility.

Why Hansi Flick Values Xavi Espart

One of Espart’s biggest strengths is his versatility.

Although naturally right-footed, he has established himself as a capable option at left-back. He can also operate on the right side of defence and provide cover in midfield.

That adaptability gives Flick additional solutions when managing injuries, rotation and a demanding fixture schedule.

Midfield remains Espart’s natural position, having spent much of his development playing there. He also represented Spain at the European Under-19 Championship, adding valuable experience to his growing résumé.

His ability to move between defensive and midfield roles could prove particularly useful as Barcelona continue building a squad capable of competing across multiple competitions.

Barcelona Continue to Invest in La Masia

Espart’s renewal reinforces Barcelona’s long-standing commitment to their academy.

Rather than relying exclusively on expensive transfers, the club continue to place significant importance on developing homegrown players and giving them opportunities to establish themselves in the senior team.

The new agreement gives Barcelona greater security over Espart’s future while allowing the youngster to continue his development in familiar surroundings.

There is still work to do before he becomes an undisputed first-team regular, but his progress so far has encouraged the club to make a long-term commitment.

Barcelona have secured another promising piece of their future — and Hansi Flick now has even more reason to keep developing one of La Masia’s rising talents.
