Barcelona Complete Two Youth Signings as La Masia Adds International Talent

Barcelona have continued their long-term investment in youth development by completing the signings of two promising young talents for the famous La Masia academy.

The Catalan club have strengthened their youth ranks with the arrival of Belgian-Moroccan midfielder Mahdi El Maimouni and Kazakh winger Karim Mendikanov, underlining their commitment to discovering the next generation of football stars.

Mahdi El Maimouni Joins From Sporting Charleroi

One of Barcelona’s latest additions is Mahdi El Maimouni, a highly rated defensive midfielder born in 2009 who arrives from Belgian club Sporting Charleroi.

The teenager has already earned a reputation as one of Belgium’s most exciting young midfield prospects and attracted interest from several major European clubs before Barcelona secured his signature.

El Maimouni is eligible to represent both Belgium and Morocco internationally, giving him multiple options for his future at senior level.

However, his immediate focus will be on continuing his development at La Masia, where Barcelona believe his qualities match the club’s football philosophy.

Barcelona sees Busquets Qualities in a young midfielder

El Maimouni’s playing style has been one of the main reasons Barcelona moved quickly to secure his services.

The midfielder is known for his tactical awareness, calmness under pressure and ability to control the rhythm of matches from a deeper position.

Scouts have reportedly identified similarities between El Maimouni and former Barcelona captain Sergio Busquets, particularly because of his positioning, passing ability and understanding of defensive midfield responsibilities.

Barcelona had been monitoring the youngster for more than a year before completing the move, with club scouts convinced that he has the potential to develop into an important player.

Both Belgium and Morocco are also following his progress closely as they compete for his future international commitment.

Karim Mendikanov Becomes Historic La Masia Arrival

Alongside El Maimouni, Barcelona have also added Karim Mendikanov to their academy structure.

The 15-year-old winger joins La Masia after developing in Catalan football with Sant Cugat FC.

Mendikanov confirmed the move through social media, sharing images from the Barcelona offices while signing his contract with the club.

His arrival represents a historic moment, as he becomes the first Kazakh player to join Barcelona’s academy system.

The winger is regarded as a talented attacking prospect and will now continue his development within one of the world's most respected youth academies.

Barcelona Continues Global Youth Recruitment Strategy

The signings of El Maimouni and Mendikanov highlight Barcelona’s ongoing strategy of identifying talented players from different football markets at an early age.

La Masia has historically produced some of the greatest players in club history, including Lionel Messi, Xavi Hernandez, Andres Iniesta, and Sergio Busquets.

While Barcelona continues strengthening the first team under Hansi Flick, the club remains focused on building a strong foundation for the future.

By attracting young talents from Belgium, Morocco, Kazakhstan and other footballing regions, Barcelona hope to maintain La Masia’s reputation as one of the world's leading development systems.

The latest additions are unlikely to make an immediate impact at senior level, but Barcelona believe both youngsters have the potential to become important figures in the club’s future.
