Barcelona Set to Receive €2.89 Million FIFA Payment After Major World Cup Contribution
Barcelona are set to receive a significant financial boost from FIFA after providing one of the most represented squads at the 2026 World Cup.
According to reports from Mundo Deportivo, the Catalan club will receive €2,893,533 through FIFA’s updated Club Benefits Programme as compensation for releasing their players for international duty.
The payment represents another important source of income for Barcelona, but it is considerably lower than the amount the club earned after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Barcelona’s World Cup Revenue Falls Despite Strong Representation
Barcelona had 16 players involved from the beginning of the tournament’s final phase, highlighting the club’s continued influence at international level.
However, despite their strong presence, the financial return has decreased compared to previous years.
After the 2022 World Cup, Barcelona received approximately €4.43 million from FIFA’s compensation programme.
This time, the figure has dropped to just under €2.9 million due to major changes in FIFA’s payment structure.
The governing body has redesigned the Club Benefits Programme by splitting payments into two different categories.
One section rewards clubs for contributing players during World Cup qualifying campaigns, while another covers participation during the final tournament.
The new model allows more clubs around the world to receive financial compensation, but it also reduces the share received by traditional European giants that regularly supply large numbers of international players.
How FIFA’s New Compensation System Works
Under FIFA’s updated regulations, clubs are now rewarded throughout both the qualification stage and the World Cup itself.
During qualifying matches, clubs receive €2,045 per player for every national team call-up, regardless of whether that player participates in the match.
Barcelona earned €153,375 from this part of the programme alone.
Brazil international Raphinha was one of the club’s biggest contributors during the qualification phase, receiving 13 call-ups and generating €26,585 for Barcelona before the World Cup finals even began.
World Cup Final Payment Structure Explained
The compensation system during the World Cup follows a different approach.
Instead of paying clubs based on individual matches played, FIFA calculates payments from the first day of a national team’s official training camp until the day after the country’s final match.
For the 2026 World Cup, FIFA established a daily payment of €4,330 per player.
This represents a significant change from the previous tournament in Qatar, where the daily compensation rate was higher.
Although FIFA has increased the overall value of its Club Benefits Programme, the new distribution method means clubs like Barcelona receive a smaller percentage compared to previous World Cups.
Barcelona Continue to Benefit From Global Presence
Despite receiving less money than in 2022, the payment remains a valuable financial boost for Barcelona.
The club’s strong World Cup representation highlights the quality of its squad and the importance of its players on the international stage.
With stars representing multiple countries, Barcelona continue to benefit from their global profile both financially and commercially.
The €2.89 million FIFA payment may not match previous earnings, but it remains another positive contribution as the club continues working to strengthen its financial position.
